Halloween playlist #3 - Slaughter High [1986]

Well, after watching two good movies, it only made sense to mix in a crappy one. This is pretty standard for '80s horror, a slasher movie without any mystery as to who the killer is, fueled by a cheesy revenge plot perpetrated on and by unlikable and uninteresting characters.

There isn't much to be said on this movie's behalf. Part of me thinks they realized just how uninspired this was before they even started filming, but there is a seriousness in the attempt pf making this into a legitimate horror film that makes it really hard for me to judge. The relative sincerity of the effort, however, winds up being one of its biggest downfalls. At no point is this movie self-aware enough to be entertaining as a comedy, and the entire set-up and execution is weak enough that I can't even see it as a horror movie.

Ultimately, this movie isn't good enough to be good, or bad enough to be worth your time. It isn't funny, creepy, interesting, or well-made in any way. I didn't hate it or anything, but I could never recommend it to anyone who is looking to have a good time with a slasher film. Just stick with one of the major franchises, and if you're out of other options, maybe you should try a different subgenre of horror.

4/10
