Project Pokemon: The Gathering - Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur!

Creature abilities and P/T designation courtesy of Patrick and Jon. I just did the cosmetic bits here. A little tinkering with the Pokevolve effect, possibly letting you dig through your deck to play cards you evolve into, but we'll see about that. It's never too late to fix the rules.

Project Pokemon: The Gathering - Special conditions and YOU

In this post, I'll be going into what is in store for those pesky effects your Pokemon catch in battle like herpes off the proverbial toilet seat. I am of course, referring to those 5 special conditions Confusion, Paralysis, Sleep, Poison, and Burn. How will they be handled in a game of Magic? Well, let's get into it.

All of these conditions will involve counters. They will be assigned numeric values much like how Pokevolve is given a number determining how many +1/+1s will be placed on the creature. If a creature is given Confusion 3, for example, it will have 3 confusion counters placed on it. These counters will be removed once per turn at the end of the controller's NEXT turn. This means if you are attacking and become blocked by something that gives your creature a Confusion counter, it will not be able to be removed until the end of your next turn. But if it's your opponent's turn when your creature gets that Confusion counter, you'll get to remove the counter at the end of your turn, not having to wait until the next turn after that. These are the basic ground rules for how a lot of the special condition mechanics will work, so now we can get into the specifics.

Project Pokemon: The Gathering - Establishing the basics

I am at least 99.9% sure that this has been done before, but that didn't stop me from busting out my MTG set editor and asking a few people if they wanted to give this a go with me. In the wake of Pokemon Go, this game has exploded all over again as it did in the late '90s, and that means it has been on my mind a lot. I have always enjoyed the Gameboy games, I used to collect the cards (though not avidly), and I of course have enjoyed this newest addition to the Poke universe. But the card game never really did it for me. I enjoyed the individual cards, but felt the game itself lacked a little. Of all the strategic card games out there, Magic: The Gathering is my favorite. It's gone through some changes and is incredibly difficult to get good at, but it's always been a game I've enjoyed playing and designing my own cards for. So, naturally, this is where my mind has taken me, and I've been lucky enough to have a couple people as interested in working on this as me (my brother Patrick and our good friend Jon), so there are some ideas we've been able to bring out that I find interesting.

Top 10 Werewolves in Magic: The Gathering

To anyone who read my top 10 faeries post, the same rules apply here: this list is for creature cards only. Also, this does not include Wolf-types, otherwise half the list wouldn't even be werewolf cards. I love my red/green werewolves, so here is a selection of my very favorite and most practical in the game.

I feel I always need to add the following statement, due to the anger and fury of the vocal online nerd community, but this list is entirely my opinion. If you disagree with me, that's fine. Just try not to burst a blood vessel over it, it's not like I'm trying to take your guns or welfare checks from you.

Immerwolf, Moonmist, Full Moon's Rise, and several others are not included here for reasons already stated, but I still felt they needed to be specifically mentioned.

So Bad They're Good - Top 50 Movies: Part I (#50 - 41)

I have a deep, undying passion for bad movies. Not just of the All About Steve/Jack And Jill variety, but of that particular breed of bad that's cheesy and idiotic to the right level. It's a hard kind of thing to explain liking, but I will try my best to make it known why I enjoy these movies, and maybe my fellow dumpster divers will find some more stuff to look at when they peruse this list. Sometimes these movies are trying to be funny, some of them don't try to be funny at all, and others are just so painfully dumb, there's no way they could be taken seriously at all. This list contains all forms of bad fun.

Top 10 Faeries in Magic: The Gathering

Getting it right out of the way, I am not counting Bitterblossom on this list. In spite of the fact it is a tribal faerie spell, and it generates faeries, this list is for creature cards only. However, if I did choose to count it, I think a top 5 slot wouldn't be out of the question.

Now, this list, as previously stated, is all about creature cards. With an emphasis on tribal cards for the most part, but additionally just how well the cards work in whatever deck they are intended for. I play mono-blue faeries, so this list is going to be biased, but with that being said, I have a pretty good idea how all these cards work best. So here we go.

Top 10 Community episodes

Now, up until this point, I haven't branched off from writing about film-related material at all, so this is something totally different for me. There have been relatively few TV shows I feel I have much to say about, and I've never been too big into most of what everyone else watches (I only just now caught up on Game Of Thrones after 4 years of ignoring it), not because I think I'm too good for popular television or anything stupid like that, but I just find it difficult at times to keep up with something that airs new material once a week for a few months out of the year.

That being said, I have decided to break my stupid barriers and try my hand at writing about what little I *do* know in regards to TV and other forms of entertainment. I doubt these posts with drown out the mass amounts of film writing still to come, so anyone who has an interest in what I have to say about movies and doesn't give a crap about TV, music, standup comedy, or whatever other dumb crap I decide to write about (hell, maybe I'll even branch off into Magic: The Gathering or Pokemon) won't need to endure too much of this other stuff, as I will always have more things to write about when it comes to film. So now on to the subject at hand.

Top 25 Movie Villains of the '90s

The 1990s were a fun time. I can say that because nostalgia is an incredible force, and the '90s is the first decade I ever got to see any of. It was a simpler time, a period in which kids still used plastic toys that didn't come with WiFi, jean shorts were acceptable to wear in public, and everyone had a favorite pro wrestler. The movies were just discovering the horrors of too much CGI, but we're still riding the wave of the fun times found in the '80s. And the villains...there were still interesting villains out there that didn't just fit into one of two categories as they seem to now: bonkers crazy or boring.

So here is an opinion list. I don't profess to represent anyone but myself here, so any righteous indignation will be lost on me. If you agree, cool. If not, cool. We're all entitled to be as wrong as we like, myself included. So here goes.

2016 in film (Part V)

50 movies down, and I already have seen enough good movies to make a solid top 25. Oh yes things are coming along rather nicely.
