Halloween playlist #31 - Sleepaway Camp (1983)

I, sadly, fell prey to the dreaded spoilers that plague everything surrounding this movie. So I didn't get to witness the full impact of the ending many others before me had the pleasure of experiencing, but that never kept this movie from being any less interesting. It may not stand among the greatest slasher movies ever, but it's still a strong one. The setup is generic and many of the events taking place are pretty standard, so it all really comes down to the ending. But what an ending.

There's a certain level of "just shut your brain off" that you have to succumb to with this one, as it offers both a chilling twist and difficult gaps in logic with its finale. I choose to ignore the faults in this case and see the movie as nothing more than a necessary set-up for a truly creepy and disturbing climax. If you don't know how this movie ends but you like slasher movies, consider yourself one of the lucky few. And then, without looking up anything about it, just watch the movie. For everyone else, sorry the ending got spoiled for you, but it's still worth checking out.
